Construction Details:

This is the second version of this costume; the original was a commission that I decided I needed to try my hand at doing for real. The entire costume (with exception of the skirt) was done without a pattern. I used sketches from the strategy guide, Amano art, the action figures, and some websites to construct this costume. I also learned a thing or two about dyeing. Rit Dye is easy to deal with, but it stains skin; my hands were pink for a few days. The most challenging and time consuming part of this costume was hand painting the skirt and the obi bow. The obi bow itself took up the most time to make, it kept being unable to stand up to being worn and move in. I finally figured it out and hopefully it'll continue to hold up to being worn. I did take a few artistic liberties with this costume too. I strive for the accuracy, but at the same time I wanted to not be cookie-cutter with other perfectionists. The earring has to be my most favorite yet least favorite feature. It is so pretty and looks great, however it is SO heavy. Once I got used to it I could wear it for days straight if need be.
