Construction Details:

The jacket is based on a heavily modified pattern (it was very 80's, but had the right lines). It's made of cotton, and lined. The bias tape was handmade, and finished by hand with lots of slip stitching. The buttons are all functional. The earrings were decorative buttons on a cardigan that just...(Read More) happened to be the right shape and size! The pants zip in the back, and are fun and poofy. I already owned the boots.

Personal Thoughts:

I look like Cap'n Crunch's saucy red-headed first mate! Usually when approaching a costume I try to think about how the character would translate to real life. What kinds of fabric would they wear, etc. No. This is pure cartoon. Bright colors, poofy pants, crazy wig, drag queen makeup! We've been talking about making Team Rocket costumes for a long time, and have always loved their wacky disguises more than the default uniforms. We scanned a few episodes, and decided that Salon Roque were perfect. I loved performing in these, the crowd cheered when we actually "captured" Pikachu with our glittery pokeball. Yes, the wig isn't exactly comfortable. I can't turn my neck very much, and after a while it causes pain. But hey, cosplay is pain. I'm more surprised when a costume is comfortable!

Styling Notes

1 wig, 1 pack of 30" extensions, 2 packages of armature wire, a roll of masking tape, 2 bottles of red paint, 1 bottle of glue, batting, t-pins, wig clips, and hairspray. I found 2 tutorials online that I used to come up with a battle plan. My husband was a huge help with the under-structure. Yes, it's heavy. There's a little bit of counterweight in the front, but not enough. I want to touch up the widow's peak and a few other things before wearing it again. I'll post some progress pics so you can see what it looks like under the hair.
