This is the cosplay that happened despite the odds. I was hyperfocused on getting the purple headpiece done, and didn't think to make sure the rest of the costume fit. Fortunately, I had an extra pair of black pants, and my roommate was able to lend me a black t-shirt. I used foam wrap to cover the places where my skin showed between my gloves and the shirt sleeves and between the tops of my boots and the hem of my pants. Since the convention was held in a building with a mall, I was able to buy a plain black longsleeved shirt at lunchtime. I'm working on a more appropriate shirt for the next con. Also, when I put on my makeup, it made me look like a California raisin. I fortunately had a bit of white to blend for the right color. It was all totally worth it. I decided to try my hand at making a latex headpiece. For the first one, I used a styrofoam head and matched it to my own head dimensions with clay. I then molded the shape of the asari head on top of that clay using more clay. I covered it in plaster of paris and when that dried, I pulled it all out of the mold and filled the mold with latex. When the latex dried, I pulled it out, trimmed and painted it, and voila! The second one was made using a concrete bust I made of my own head, so it had a much better fit, and I also filled the clay with different sized beads to give it a distinct texture, and paid more attention to the detailing.
