About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The top is made from a heavily modified Simplicity S8869 pattern and the skirt is made from Simplicity 8328. The sleeves were based on the lower sleeve piece from Butterick B4571. This costume is made almost entirely of satin, but the sleeves are a shiny stretch fabric that matches well.
I hand sewed several appliques onto the front and back of the top. There is a zipper in the back and matching buttons on the neckband (using elastic loops, not buttonholes). This costume is fully lined and includes a built-in bra, which was added to the design mid-construction and thus made for an interesting new challenge. Silvery trim is sewn along the neckband and the upper edge of the top. On the skirt edge, I put some subtle machine embroidery with blue glitter thread in addition to the more noticeable white trim. I sewed a bow onto the back of the top, just below the zipper. The top also includes three small chains with metal disks on each side. I used a basic jewelry-making kit to put these together from jewelry chains and beads, which I then sewed onto the costume.

nThe sleeves each have a rhinestone applique (purchased from OneStopTrims on Etsy) that I hand sewed on. I also hand sewed a mirrored flowery trim (purchased from shopofembellishments on Etsy) on the top edge of the sleeves. - Personal Thoughts:
- When my wife asked me to make this cosplay for her, I initially said no and told her she would have to settle for Serena's regular outfit, but then I kept thinking of ways to pull it off and ended up taking on the challenge. I am glad I did because I think this is my personal best cosplay I've made thus far! It is also definitely the most technically challenging.
