About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
I dyed the fabrics for the nagajuban (kimono undergarment), kimono, and obi with Procion dye.
I drafted the juban and kimono pattern by tracing a yukata I own. The juban is made of cotton and the sleeves are silk. It has a loop in the back to pull the collar into a curve.
The kimono is silk with cotton lining, and the sakura designs are painted on. It's about knee-length since it's only going to be worn under the hakama.
The hakama is made of heavy linen. It has ribbon threaded through buttonholes in the hem and the sakura crest is painted. The hakama ties attach with velcro.
I could not find any information on making skirt-style hakama, so I have made a guide going through how I made the pattern. Hope it helps somebody! Link
The obi is pre-tied and also attaches with velcro. The date-jime (decorative collar) is made of the same fabric and sewed onto the kimono.
Boots and shawl are vintage and the hairclip is made from some scrap Sintra and painted. - Personal Thoughts:
- I love DGS so much! It was hard to decide which character to cosplay first but I went with Susato cause her outfit seemed the simplest.

- Styling Notes
- Added wefts for the hair loops since the wig wasn't quite long enough.
