Construction Details:

The lace collar was made from some lace that I found in my late grandma's sewing box, and a button an a snap. I battled the lace, and the lace won but it is what it is. The black material was what I had left over from my Anna housemaid dress. I patterned both the bodice and skirt myself. There's a cord for the skirt, but I cheated and did a hidden zipper for the bodice. Like my other period drama costumes, I matched the seams to the episode stills, and given that the apparent buttons are hidden I thought I could get away with it. Most seams are French seams. The neckline is bias tape that I machine stitched in for the inner stitch, and hand sewed for the outside so that it is invisible. I did a blind hem for the skirt hem. As the actress uses her real hair for the role, and is blonde like me, I did as well.
