About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
I started with cutting out my pieces of white poplin. I used my usual princess seam dress pattern and modified the neck-line to be a ruffle turtleneck and added poofy sleeves. I didn't have time to order custom fabric with blue stripes of the correct spacing, so I decided to paint them! I had extra light blue fabric paint from when we made our IMaS Yukata Maid outfits in 2010. I placed painters tape as a guide. During this process however, I ran out and had to rush order a new roll. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime! Once all the tape was placed, I painted non-stop 2 layers of blue, drying in between each application. The painting process took about 3 days. On the morning I had to wear the costume, I got up early to sew it all together. It took me about 5-6 hours to complete the sewing part. Everything is serged and I added cherry lace I had stocked-up a long time ago and applied it to the bottom hem and the sleeves. The rest of the accessories I already had: brooch from my grandma, red and white striped socks from my Shimakaze cosplay, and the wig was originally gonna be a Ruby Love Live Sunshine wig that I repurposed. I added little freckles as I did my makeup. I would love to wear this to an actual Wendy's restaurant someday!
- Personal Thoughts:
- For Halloween I wanted to make something recognizable and iconic. Earlier last year we were anticipating a cosplay fad going on with the Wendy Twitter phenomenon and so much fan art popping up of Smug Wendy. I thought it would be fun to try making it.
