About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Took me quite a few months to put this thing together. Some of it was just me being finicky with material choices & trying to wait for a better reference as none of the artbooks had anything on it. Eventually got that one exhibit art so used that as my main reference.
n
nI used 4-way stretch spandex for the whole thing. I was determined to have each "feather" a separate piece to create the look I perceived on the outfit as versus having it all one flat suit like I've seen some folks do it. I also used photos of Johnny Weir's costume which this was loosely based off of for help to figure out the best way to make it. The costume itself wouldn't have been possible without my gf helping to pin each piece to me while it was on my body to get just the right positioning & I then hand stitched each onto the bodysuit.
n
nI used Swarovski rhinestones & every single one was glue on individually. I used 3ss Crystal AB rhinestones for the trim on the sleeve in order to create the right reflective look his has with that slight multi-color look. They were crazy hard to apply with how small they were but I wanted to make sure they were subtle like his. Then I used 12ss rhinestones in Moonlight Crystal & Blue Sapphire for the feather outlines. There is one blue sapphire for every 3 crystal rhinestones in the pattern to be subtle but still give that slight blue tinge you can see in some of the images of the costume in the anime. There are 2 layers on each & at a total of over 8000 rhinestones on this thing, this has now topped Der Tod as my most expensive costume. x_x;; - Personal Thoughts:
- I was a bit nervous doing this cosplay as I'm not used to wearing such tight skin type outfits but decided to do it anyways due to my love for the series, character, & this design in particular.
