About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Mantle: two layers of 2mm EVA foam. Made a paper mock-up first, then used that as a pattern for the foam and the fabric. Fabric was attached via triangles folded under the foam and glued in place. Bias tape was also VERY carefully glued on.
Collar: just some fabric, interfacing, and bias tape.
Vest: made my own pattern. Used interfacing in the "tentacle" pieces. You can't see it in this shot, but there's also an applique detail in the back.
Cincher: made my own pattern for this, as well. LOTS of bias tape lmao. Used a little bit of boning, but only one piece on each side to get the curve I wanted.
Weird Orb Skirt Thing: yikes, this was the biggest challenge. I made the clay casts, molds, and resin casts for the cabochons first. I used the cabochons to make my patterns for the rest of it. Two base pieces made w/ two layers of 2mm EVA foam. Heat gun used to curve them. Then I made four curvy top layers, two of them w/ two layers and the other w/ three layers of the same foam. Beveled the edges. Before gluing and painting, I added Neodynium magnets on the sides through a trial and error process.
Purple skirt: didn't bother with a pattern; just draped my purple knit fabric on my dress form and went from there.
Shirt and pants: made from scratch out of lycra and spandex. Went all the way to Mood Fabrics in NYC for the lycra lol. - Personal Thoughts:
- I really love the design and color scheme of this character. I HAD to make her!
