So I picked. This really thick stretch jersey knit type of fabric for the beige part of the uniform, which I realize now was the worst idea ever since it literally broke my sewing machine even while using the right needle for it, but... I don't regret it. I really like the way it looks in the end, and I wanted to keep the way the Kisaragi uniform doesn't have any darts or anything... which is completely ridiculous when you look at the size of some of the girls' chests but. Corpse Party.
I used my usual sailor uniform pattern but made the sleeves a little longer and took it in a bit since it doesn't have darts. This also has a very high collar so while I'm usually able to just slide sailor uniforms over my head I had to use snaps for the collar flap this time, how sad! The collar flap itself is made of white polyester and premade bias tape, nothing too fancy! I lined it with the same fabric, and used this felt interfacing for the collar so... everything is so soft and cushion-y... The cuffs and band at the bottom are also a stretch knit, I interfaced the cuffs but it wouldn't stretch around my waist if I used interfacing so it's unfortunately tacked in place. Hopefully when I have time I can go back and add a layer of thick spandex or something on the inside so it stays up on its own. I got the gem and cameo frame it's mounted on at my local bead store and the scarf is an half-circle that I lined and pleated at the top, then lightly ironed to give it the proper bounce: I don't like the cheap cotton it's made out of but, again, they had no better options in that color so I'd like to remake it in the future.
The skirt is made of a thick polyester fabric with a slight sheen. I sewed the inside of the pleats down and handsewed the pleats shut around my hips to imitate the look of the original. I usually top-stitch the pleats around the waist but I felt like that would look cleaner in this case. It has a double-fold hem that my friend handsewed with an invisible stitch aaall the way around... literally saved my life! And the raw edge at the top is hidden in the waistband; I used the same felt interfacing for the waistband. It closes with a zipper on the side and two snaps on the waistband.
I bought the socks and shoes. - Personal Thoughts:
- I have a pretty intense love-hate relationship with this game series, but I've wanted to cosplay it as a group for almost 3 years so I'm glad my friends agreed to do it!
Also, literally both my sewing machines broke in the process of making this so it's not as polished or nice as I wanted... but I felt super comfortable wearing it anyway!
