White dress shirt and white shorts were salvaged from my closet. Had to detach the breast pocket from the shirt because it was too visible.
Skirt is made from two layers of polycotton (after I realized one layer was...way too thin). It is a fake Hakama I constructed using various online tutorials for guidance. There is interfacing in the back where the band is attached to the base of the skirt, and there are two loops attached to the front so I can tie the sash in the front to keep it up. There are slits in the side that are super convenient because they give me access to the POCKETS in my shorts that are otherwise hidden.
Yukata-style shirt(?) is made from stretchy polyester and the same polycotton I used for the skirt, though I bleached it a bit lighter since I realized the skirt and the shirt binding were actually not the same shade of pink. I based my design off yukata/kimono tutorials online. Lace was sewn into the binding before I attached it to the shirt.
The underbust corset isn't a real corset. It's made of...what I'd guess to be a cotton/lycra blend? that attaches with velcro in the back.
Hair ornament is a fake flower (99 Cents store, woo!) glued to a bobby pin.
Shoes are boots I had on hand for regular wear.
The Koutetsujou key is made from cornstarch clay, a wooden dowel, and craft foam, and is painted with gold acrylic paint.
Bow and Arrow Forthcoming~Didn't have time to finish it for Anime Expo, but I have parts of it done and just need to assemble it for the next convention! - Personal Thoughts:
- Might be my new favorite costume. The fact I can have pockets and wear it around without having to carry anything is amazing. Also love how flowy the hakama is~
Disappointed I couldn't find a Kurusu at AX, though >.<
Wig Details
- Wig Brand
- L-email Wig
- Wig Name
- Yu Kanda Wig
- Original Color:
- Black
- Styling Time
- 2 hours
- Wig Quality Rating
- 4 / 5.00
- Styling Notes
- I sewed a flexible hairband along the front of the wig to better support the weight of the ponytail. Had to trim the bangs on one side, and on the other I just tuck them under the wig so it looks pulled back more. Also expose part of my hairline on one side so it looks more realistic as well.
- Wig Review
- I was honestly not looking forward to using a ponytail wig, but this one is really soft and pretty easy to style.
