About this Costume
Construction Details:
Bow:
nSame Cotton Fabric as Skirt, from Hobby Lobby, with lace also from Hobby Lobby. The size is based on a bow from Baby, The Stars Shine Bright. 1 side of each layer is interfaced. Due to the lace being so wide, I had to hand sew the lace down a bit in the middle where the not is. If you see the bow, you understand why. Then it is just bobby pinned to my wig.
n
nWig/Ponytail Clips:
nThe base wig is a Lulu from Arda in Natural Black. The clips are made with matching color short wefts from Arda. I went through the process sewing them to a felt piece and then hot gluing them to clips. The wonderful tutorial is available on Deviantart.
nEarrings:
nThe larger diamond is glitter sculpey. I used the same gold beads as on the neckerchief, since it looked kind of nice.
nNeckerchief:
nDrafted myself, and was my first time using the scallop stitch on the machine. I used smaller beads than the design, since that???s just how roll I suppose? Same fabric as the skirt.
nBlouse:
nPink cotton from Hobby Lobby. Base pattern from McCall???s. I had to mess with the collar to give it a rounder shape. Nico???s design does not have sleeves, but I chose to add the ruffles on the sleeves. Also, on the middle of the shirt, there are 2 rows of ruffles. I felt that was something Nico would do. On the very bottom of the shirt, there is a cute leaf pattern sewn, even though you can???t see it.
nApron:
nWhite cotton from Hancocks. I drafted the pattern as I went, as none was really hard, just time consuming. I discovered the scallop stitch, so after finding out how easy it is, I used it on the ruffle part on the shoulder straps. I am SO glad with that last minute decision. It gives it that nice dainty look. The waist ties were traced directly from a Bodyline apron, to get that appropriate length and width. Top and bottom filled with a thin layer of cotton batting, since once again, that???s how I roll.
nSkirt:
nOh this skirt???.
n1 full circle skirt. I had the ?? skirt drafted on paper, then I went through the process of figuring out the diamonds. The diamonds on the skirt are on straight on Nico, but I wanted straight ones. So first I took the paper pattern, and folded it in half twice-leaving me with 4 even columns. Next, I accounted for the top and bottom seam allowance, and marked that. I wanted 4 diamonds in each column. After thinking and whatnot, I was left with dimensions of 5???, 4???, 3???, 2???. That is now drafted. I then had to half that vertically, so I could know where the middle/side points of each one go. So then, I was ready to transfer that to the skirt. Long process???
nNext I was ready for painting. You can see the progress image where I was using painters tape to help with straight lines-great item to use! I had to paint every other one on each row.
nSo after that process, an invisible zipper and waistband were added. Ruffles on the bottom also. Pearls are individually added/sewn between every diamond, and 4 gems are inside each diamond. Small bows are added at the bottom.
nPetticoat:
nBasically RuffleButt???s Madoka Petticoat Tutorial, available on Deviantart. I used a bias tape waistband, as an elastic one would keep falling, which she mentioned in her tutorial.
nThigh Highs:
nFrom WeLoveColors.com. I had planned on painting my own, but when I kool-aid dyed white thigh highs, they ALWAYS came out splotchy, so that was a no go.
nShoes:
nBarely used Bodyline shoes for $8, from a user on Lace Market. Nothing special was needed since Nico was thankfully wearing low heel black mary janes.
Personal Thoughts:
This was so comfortable! I love it!
