About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Fabrics: vest is made of a linen rayon blend with a medium-weight fusible interfacing in the collar band and a lightweight lining. Dress and sash are made of 100% cotton. Obi is made of a polycotton blend.
Wig: used to be a long ebay wig. Cut and styled with foam curlers and hair spray.
Earrings: Made of DMC embroidery floss, ceramic jade beads, and gold hoops. I made the tassels and then used a yarn needle to weave the loops around the tassels and then up and through. The earrings have jump rings that are just large enough to slip off the hoops so that I can replace or clean them easily.
Dress: dress is an ankle-length princess seam dress with no waistline and an invisible zipper. I did a lot of alteration to the front so I could draft the section with the gathers and I widened the sleeve. The whole dress is french-seamed and hand-hemmed on every edge. I handstitched elastic into the neckline to get that anime gather look.
Vest: vest was a kimono pattern that I shortened (I had to shorten it even more because I ran out of fabric, grrr). This was SUCH a pain, I hated making this stupid vest. Linen rayon blend has MUCH more stretch than lining fabric. This caused a lot of table-flipping and seam ripping. I hand-stitched the lining seams closed, part of the sleeve and the front. The collar band is interfacing, understitched, and hand-stitched to the vest on the outside. It closes with a snap in front.
Obi: just a rectangle. It's reinforced with medium-weight fusible interfacing, and six featherweight boning channels. The end is hand-stitched closed and has three heavy-duty hooks and eyes.
Sash: Main part of the sash has medium-weight fusible interfacing and closes with two snaps. The bow is a separate piece that snaps onto the sash. I want to remake this whole thing, I don't like it.
Shoes: shoes were purchased, and I put gel liners in the backs.

I want to get a new wig for this, remake the sash and bow, fix the obi (the boning is buckling due to not cutting it short enough before turning it inside-out), make the cloak, bow, quiver, and arrows, and I'd like to commission my friend to make the hair pin as well! I have a full Yona group in the works right now, so I'll be making Hak over the summer for my friend, and then cracking the whip on my other friends to make their cosplays!! - Personal Thoughts:
- I'm actually like 80% happy with this costume, which almost never happens. I'm only redoing a few things!!
