Construction Details:

Starting from the bottom to the top! My shoes were boots I had in the house; they didn't have a heel and I wanted to be short. My pants were dickies. My belts were bought, then studded with varying sizes of silver studs. My coat was sewn with cotton sateen and some navy bottomweight fabric. It had horsehair braid in the hem to give it the ripple effect his coat always has! My dueldisk was off ebay. My shirt was a poorly made muscle shirt made out of matte vinyl.
The part I spent the most time on (aside from the wig, of course) was my millennium puzzle. I wanted my puzzle to be absolutely perfect (I had actually gotten mostly through constructing one before scrapping it and starting all over again). I used several images from the show and various renders artists had posted all over as reference to the final design I used on my puzzle. All original renders, however, had the pyramid at a very wide size; this was canon, but very unflattering to be made in real life. I stretched the pattern I found (a very, very long process) to fit the size I wanted. The base is just cardboard box pieces cut out and hot glued together. I had patterned all the pieces on top using a very tedious method taping the whole pyramid, drawing on the pattern, labeling it all, and then cutting it all out. I used these pattern pieces to cut out small pieces of craft foam, which I then glued onto the pyramid itself according to a guide I had drawn on the cardboard pyramid itself, leaving thin gaps between each piece to give the illusion of puzzle pieces. Afterward, I dremeled all my seams, then filled the small cracks with kwik seal to give a very smooth finish. At this point, I attached the eye and ring, which were made of worbla, to the pyramid body with glue. From here I primed the whole thing with wood glue to make it all solid. Afterward, I spray painted it gold, then just painted the crevices black/contoured the details! The chain is just a plastic chain spraypainted silver.

Personal Thoughts:

I love YU???GI???OH so MUCH!!! Wearing Yami was such a dream come true for baby me, even though I had forgotten a lot of stuff/not finished it. Making Yami was a real trial, but I had a great time wearing him to con (and look forward very much to wearing him again in the future)!!

Styling Notes

For the wig, I used stiff felt cones to support my spikes. I snipped the tips off the cones in order for me to have more feathery spikes (due to ease and preference). I had cheap blonde and black wigs I bought off taobao for detailing. The black was just hot glued and hair sprayed on; the blonde parts were glued onto stiff felt, then glued onto the wig. I had initially not made the hairline deep enough, and had to glue an extra bit of hair onto more stiff foam, then glued that under the hairline to extend it.
