About this Costume
Construction Details:
Dress: Made out of purple linen and a thick white curtain (no joke).
--The top was completely patterned from scratch based on a body block built from my own measurements, and then altered to mimic the proportions of a child. I made the top completely out of the white curtain, and then pillowed the purple pieces and topstitched them on top. Buttons were tacked on at the end.
--The skirt pattern was made by altering a pattern for Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz (the pattern was basically a rectangle, so I could have just drafted it by hand...) The pattern called for three panels sewed together, but I only did two to get the amount of gathers I wanted. I shortened the altered pattern to make a new pattern for the apron/overskirt, and then gathered the two skirts together and attached them to the bodice.

Arm/Leg Tights: I used light grey tights from We Love Colors. For the arm socks, I cut a hole in the crotch so that it would fit over my head, and then had a friend baste between my fingers while they were extended in the tights. I then zig-zagged along the basting with my sewing machine and removed the baste stitches. After trimming around the sewed lines, the tights were turned inside out. Then, both sets of tights were painted using watered-down acrylic paint.

Makeup: All of the grey is Ben Nye grey body cream. (A body paint base would have been better, but I couldn't find one I wasn't allergic to D:). I used eyeliner and mascara to make my eyes stand out from the grey makeup, and recolored in my eyebrows using a dark brown eye pencil. I also used a combination of black and purple eyeshadows to make my eyes look sunken and to contour my face.

Wig: A SnK/AoT Hange wig from Amazon.

Contacts: Dolce Contact Perfect Series 14.5mm in Yellow (I bought them while I was in Japan)

Shoes: Cheap flats from WalMart. Used to meet the shoe policy at conventions, and not really meant for photos... (sometimes I forgot to take them off)

Syringe: Comprised of a vintage gas pump, plastic mason jar, top of a baby bottle, red soap, a dowel rod, random pvc pieces, various bits of plumping equipment, and lots of heavy-duty glue. Also painted with acrylic paints.

Mimicking a child: I wore a binder to make myself look flat-chested like a child does. I also dropped the waist of my top to be closer to my pants-line to make my torso look longer proportional to my legs, and made sure to make the skirt hit close to my knees to make my legs look shorter.
Personal Thoughts:
I'm really proud of this costume because I made it in only a few days while I was concussed! I hit my head about 3 weeks before Katsucon, where I was to be part of a large BioShock group. I didn't feel well enough to work on the outfit, but I powered through it literally the week of the con. Despite this, I'm so happy with the way it turned out!
