About this Costume

Necklace was purchased from Etsy! I ended up having to modify it a little bit by cutting the black cord a bit shorter and adding an actual clasp--originally you were just supposed to tie it in a knot around your neck but that made me nervous. The bracelets are just plain rubber bracelets bought from Amazon.
All the fabric used to make the dress was purchased from Joanns, except for the white top fabric which I think was from Hancock. (But to be honest I'm probably going to remake the top because I hate it, haha...) The zippers are 2-way 10-gauge silver zippers purchased from Wawak.com (which I would TOTALLY recommend, their prices are amazing and shipping is insanely fast). Also, shoutout to my husband for muscling off the zipper tops when I had to remove them to shorten the zippers. The dress is denim with tiny little eyelets added, and the aforementioned zippers. The hood/white strap are actually attached to the dress, rather than to the white top, to help hold it up since it's fairly heavy. The white strap is made of the same fabric as the top, and the hood is a really nice knit fabric. I'm actually pretty proud of my construction on the dress--it was the first time I'd ever made a mockup for something (I actually ended up making like three, ugh) and it was definitely worth the effort. The top and bottom of the dress both have rolled hems. It's also partially self-lined--this was my first time lining something!
The shoes were an adventure--I purchased them from Forever 21 with the intention of dyeing them. But I accidentally used the wrong color of Rit dye, which meant that I also had to try out Rit's dye remover--it worked surprisingly well. I then re-dyed it with purple liquid dye, and it came out much better. I had to paint all the details on--Tulip soft fabric paint was used for the white edge details, and the sole was painted with acrylic mixed with mod podge. That ended up chipping horribly though, so in 2017 I repainted it with Angelus black leather paint which worked perfectly!! The laces were also a pain because I had to tie them pretty tight to get them to stay up, and even then they'd still fall sometimes.
The bag/belt combo was made from some black vinyl that was on sale at Joanns. The little snaps on the belt were purchased from Walmart, and the larger heavy-duty snaps on the bag were purchased from Wawak. The ribbon was purchased from Hancock and glued on there with E6000.
And lastly, the keyblade was purchased from CosJoy on ebay!! It arrived VERY quickly, so that was a huge plus, and it was very affordable. It does feel a little lightweight, like I wouldn't go around whacking things with it, but as far as props go I'd say I got exactly what I needed! (Edit: In 2017 something heavy fell on it and it SNAPPED IN HALF... luckily it was a pretty clean break so we were able to fix it at a friend's house with hot glue. But it was a SERIOUSLY harrowing experience, haha. So, initial assessment correct--VERY lightweight, not very structurally sound...but it looks pretty.) - Personal Thoughts:
- I can't believe it's 2016 and I'm cosplaying from Kingdom freaking Hearts. In all seriousness though I REALLY wanted to cosplay this version of Kairi when I first played the game, and then I sort of forgot about it...and then I ended up buying the HD remakes of all the KH games and my desire was rekindled, haha.

And now that we have the first artwork of Kairi's KH3 outfit, time to start planning for that one........
