About this Costume
Construction Details:
The yukata is dupioni silk that I patterned and hand painted wisteria flowers on, taking about 2 days in total. The obi crane fabric wasn't available (except very expensive Japanese bridal fabrics), so I ended up heat transferring the designs to make my own. I'm glad I went with a more dull, toned-down gold so not to clash with the iridescent silk; the checkerboard design on the back of the bow was made in similar fashion. Armor was constructed out of EVA foam, with several layers of primer, paint, and rubber sealant. A lot of instruction was taken from Bill Doran's "Foamsmith" crafting books, which were a big help with construction tips. In hindsight, I'd avoid using Rustoleum because it does leave a bit of a residue and requires so many layers to get the right look, but for a first try, it wasn't bad. The fox mask was purchased, cut, and re-painted.
Personal Thoughts:
I collected the fabrics for this project for about 4 years, we unfortunately had some setbacks in 3D printing the armor, so I ended up doing a bit of a crash course in armor-crafting the week before the convention. That said, I don't regret the learning process, and was so thrilled to wear this finally. Kunimitsu is the fastest character in the game, but given the bulky armor worn, I now have no idea how lol.
