costume:
the jacket is made of satin and lined with cotton satine. i'm so made i used that squiggly trim because i didn't know it frayed like a bitch but i like the way it looked. i tried to satin stitch around the edge of the blue parts but it looked a hot mess so i ended up making bias tape out...(Read More) of the blue satin and sewing it on top. the blue was also wonder undered on before sewing around the edges. the gems on the front and cuffs and feet were all resin cast. the belt is just a spandex tube sewn into a circle. the under shirt is super thick white spandex. i tried to make it with cotton satine but the neck wasn't tight enough. the shawl thing is just a long piece of cotton satine that i roll hemmed and tapered at one end. i just safety pinned it to the jacket. the pants are made of white spandex that i double layered. my butts is way to big to try to make it out of something that doesn't stretch and it was the only thing that kinda matched the white satin. i made a little earring out of worbla and just painted it. i'm wearing a hand made corset under the jacket to hold the wings in. it's basically made of like 5 layers of whatever white fabric i had left and i thing 5 yards of boning. there or pvc pipes sewn/glued to the back of it that the wings slip into. there are holes in the back of the costume on either side of the zipper. with the wig covering a lot of the back of the costume the holes and the zipper aren't visible which is nice because i couldn't use an invisible zipper.
wings:
my dad made the frames for the wings out of stainless steel pipes/tubing. i made him a pattern and he molded/welded the pipes together. i used the same pattern to make a fabric cover to go over the metal frames. i needed this to have something to glue the "feathers" to. i used left over white satin and cotton satine from the rest of the costume. the "feathers" are made of sheet packing foam, it's the white plastic bubbly looking one. i got it for free because my dad got it from work, it's what they use when they ship equipment. you can buy online pretty easily. i cut four layers for each side of the wing, i have a bunch of progress pics on my fb page if you're interested. i didn't think the four layers by themselves where thick and feathery looking enough so i cut a bunch of individual feathers also. i just hot glued them to the fabric. hot glue melts the foam tho, i wish i had a hot glue gun with multiple setting but i made it work. i wasn't really happy with the color or opacity of the foam by itself so i airbrushed the wings. i used blue underneath the feathers and white on top. the paint stuck pretty well but there was some flaking.
wig:
i used one super long wig from arda, the longest one they had, plus 4 ponytail clips also from arda, and one medium length wig i bought off a friend, i don't know the brand. i harvested two pony tail clips and the medium length wig for wefts. the bangs and skin top of the medium wig went into the long wig and the rest of the wefts and those two pony tails went into making the twisty braid. i made 3 long tubes of fabric that i stuffed with quilt batting. then i glue the wefts to the tubes. i basically tried to follow a tangled rapunzel wig tutorial. i had my boyfriend help me made the actual braid, you have to twist the individual sections one way, then twist all 3 together the opposite way. i blunt cut the bottom of the braid because that's just what his hair looks like. i attached it to the long wig with some trim i had laying around. i clipped the other 2 pony tails clips into the long wig near where the back of my head would be. they made that part of the wig fuller and i also used them to help anchor the wig to my head by clipping them through the netting of the wig all the way to my real hair. i kept the front of the wig on my head with some clips and things sewn into the front and top. i didn't really need to style the bangs, i kinda liked how they looked as is. i had to carry the wig around at the con because it drags on the floor. i'll probably end up redoing at least the braided part of the wig at some point because i wasn't really happy with it. the blue "hair ties" are the same blue spandex i used for the belt. i just loosely hand sewed them on. - Personal Thoughts:
- my favorite character ever in the history of all anime. i'm so happy i finally made this costume. i took so many selfies with cute sakuras. i can't believe i was in this costume for over 12 hours straight, and at least 8 of those with wings. ccs is my favorite anime of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!
