I fell in love with the artwork of Kaoru in her wedding kimono, and it was a pretty easy costume to make! The main kimono was made out navy blue Casa crepe. I used a basic kimono pattern and the entire costume was hand-sewn, no sewing machine used in the making. I used white Casa crepe for the bottom of the kimono and sleeves. The dots and butterflies were hand-painted on with acrylic paints ??? it took several layers of paint to get them to be opaque enough on the dark fabric. The obi is made with embroidered fabric, I sprayed dyed the fabric to achieve a similar effect that is in the actual artwork. It is fully interfaced, as is the bow and bow tails in the back. Wig was styled by Katie Bair, and I made the scarf for it. Tabi socks and zori sandals are purchased items.
