Construction Details:

I used Abel's cassock and cape patterns as a starting point. New challenges for this costume were the notch designs in the sleeves and the cape.



I used a trick learned from Abel for building a millinery wire and buckram structure for the sleeve notches, so they would keep their shape instead of flopping around.



The cassock was made from black cotton twill with white "home made" bias trim. And the cape was made from white cotton twill with a thinner cotton lining. The cape lining hid seams but also gave it a little more structural support. It has kept it's odd shape without any interfacing, and drapes well to flap artfully in strong breezes.



The foot armor was built with Wonderflex, darted before shaping, coated and sanded, painted, and glued onto the boots.



The pendant was made from two layers of medium-weight matboard, cut with knives and glued together, filled in edges and painted with Testors gold (because I've had good results with Testors not rubbing off on fabric.)



The hat was a gift made of leather that was dyed black and shaped by Inoli.

Personal Thoughts:

When I decided to cosplay Hazel, I read the manga and really enjoyed his character arc, but I hadn't seen the anime. Only recently have I seen the anime and much prefer the manga arc.

Styling Notes

The wig required numerous hours of work to create Hazel's slick-backed hair style. I readily confess that Inoli was the one who mastered this wig, and it needed product like Got2BGlue and Pomade to lock it into place.
