About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
This dress used every skill I had and forced me to learn new ones. The base of the dress is heavy casa bridal satin. I then gradient dyed it with a method Tinka Cosplay came up with while working on Luna. It even has a subtle amount of glitter in it so it sparkles in the sun. The top of the dress I modified off a mid-evil style pattern and then I drafted the sleeves and the elongated ballgown bottom. To bring in her colors I lined the sleeves in pink cotton and then made the center part from green satin with a dark purple trim. The large beaded circles I made blue to bring in her fourth color. The belt has spiral steel boning to keep it rigid. The bead work is all hand done and took about 1 1/2 - 2 months working on it consistently a few hours a day. The belt has the design of her necklace and uses several shapes in the same shade of purple and gold bugle beads. The center portion uses bugle beads in different colors for the lines and pearls for the circles. The clouds are tear drops that I doubled to get the right look. Her cutie mark is done in 3 shades of orange pearls and then seed beads to fill it in. Around the neckline are sun shaped gold beads and swarovski crystals.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I always loved celestia, but I had to get creative when I could no longer support wigs due to medical issues. Overall this is the costume I'm most proud of to date.
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- I made the wig by taking a lace front Arda Wigs in teal and took out 12 wefts. I then added 4 rows of baby pink, grape and mint long wefts. Then cut it to show a gradual layering. I did braids for the hairstyle to keep with the mid-evil theme. for the crown I found a flexible metal crown on Etsy and decorated it with rhinestone and pearls in her colors.
- Wig Review
- This was my first experience taking out wefts and putting them in. Definitely ambitious for a first project. Overall, I'm very proud of the look and it's exactly what I pictured.
