About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
14 yards of hanbok fabric, 8 yards of cotton, 45 yards of tulle, 2 yards of bridal satin, 6 yards of hanbok foil. 450+ hours of embroidery and foil transfer hell. The entire outfit has pants, 12 layers of petticoats, 2 chima layers and 2 jeogori layers. In addition there are over 1,200 pleats throughout all the skirt layers, 700+ pearls on the neckband, and the embroidery alone (which is still requires 3 more dragons) took over 200 hours alone.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I fell in love with this outfit after watching a screening of The Royal Tailor in 2015. The director had mentioned that they nearly bankrupted themselves on the wardrobe budget but there were so many gorgeous hanbok in the film that it was completely worth it.
Nearly a year later and I finally got to cross this off my dream cosplay list. Shoutout to Roxie for bringing back the hanbok foil and metal hair jewelry pieces from Korea for me.
