About this Costume

This was kind of a simple costume sewing wise. Most of the time was spent making all the props myself. The white fabric is cream taffeta with a layer of iridescent lame over top of it. I wanted to use the taffeta since the weight of it was great for holding all the gathering. Mami is an 80's pop idol and when I think of all the dolls I had as a child, their fabric always had some kind of iridescent, metallic or holographic shine to them. I looked in stores for a iridescent taffeta that I had bought in the past, with no luck so this is where I improvised and made my own.
n The yellow fabric is a 4 way stretch cotton. The costume has the yellow leotard that has snaps in the crotch to make it easier to get in and out of. Attached is the poofy sleeves that were made with elastic. The skirt is made the same with elastic along with the sock tops and choker. The red ribbon on the choker is a separate piece that snaps on top of the elastic part. Wig was a hime style wig I got lucky and found on ebay. It was curly and really long. I cut and styled it to have all the volume with lots of back combing and hair spray. To match the red velvet ribbon I decided to go with red velvet shoes. Gorgeous shoes purchased on ebay. Not very comfortable though to wear for a lot of walking. ^^;; Magical compact was made by painting one of my old make up powder compacts with metallic acrylic paint and coating it with a clear top coat. Her two cute cat companions Negi & Posi are made out of plaster out of a plaster set I found at Hobby Lobby. Painted them with enamel paint and a clear top coat.Their neck bells are tiny christmas bulbs. Microphone was a tiny candy holder that I painted, added craft foam to the handle for the ribbon, primed and painted. Glued a wooden bead to the end. The wand was a lot more work than I anticipated. The wand that I used for a base didn't react well with any paint that I was using. It kept cracking. Lots of sanding, and priming. :/ I made the heart out of yellow hot glue that I made in a heart soap mold. Painted it with glitter nail polish and E600 it to the inside of the wand so that it spins. (See progress photo) - Personal Thoughts:
- I'm a magical giiiiiirl! <3 Great costume to wear in the summer! Also wore this costume for a photo shoot and for the Boston cosplay Picnic 2015.
