About this Costume
Construction Details:
The base costume is almost exactly the same as my Neptune costume. I used an altered Kwik Sew pattern for the leotard and made it out of this gorgeous thick white spandex. The bows are cotton sateen and are underlined with thick white tulle netting. The skirt and collar are made of casa collection satin. The skirt is a pleated circle skirt with horsehair braid sewn into the hem. The collar has two rows of bias tape for trim and is sewn onto the neckline of the leotard. The boots are spandex covers worn over a pair of pumps. The white gloves I purchased from JoAnns and made the toppers from sateen with batting in between. The wig is a Chibi from Arda in Golden Blonde that I stubbed and sewed styrofoam odangos onto. The crescent moon embellishments and the odango shields are painted resin casts. The brooch is actually a pin that my sister bought for me from Hot Topic.
Personal Thoughts:
Even though Sailor Neptune will always hold a special place in my heart, over the years I've come to realize that Usagi is my favorite character of all time. I used to think she was just a crybaby, immature, and one dimensional, but really she is just honest with herself and not afraid to be just who she is. She is brave when she needs to be, caring towards everyone, and fiercely loving. Sailor Moon will always be my favorite anime and finally having the means and determination to cosplay her is a dream come true. I always felt that I couldn't "pull her off" but as soon as I put on the costume I felt transformed. I cannot wait to wear this and other variations of her costumes in the future!
