About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
This costume was a collaboration between myself and my frequent cosplay partner, KaitouHotaru: he did the sewing, and I did the armor and prop pieces. It was the second costume we had made, and at that time it was a relatively challenging project. It was also the first time I wore and styled a wig, though a friend actually did most of the styling while it was on my head (I got a straight wig and we were at loss on how to create the curls...so we used hot glue, haha).
The armor was made using styrene sheeting glued to craft foam, and the belt ornamentation was just the plain foam painted gold. I tried casting resin for pieces of the "sword" (which was just the hilt glued to a fake scabbard); end result was awful but I learned a lot. Would either of us make this costume again, we'd do just about everything differently, but all in all it was a good effort and a great learning experience. - Personal Thoughts:
- This costume was a lot of fun; it was my second costume ever, and the first time I was part of a cosplay group. KaitouHotaru is a HUGE FFIX fan, so he was head-honcho on this project and made all the costumes for our group (KH was Zidane, along with two other friends as Dagger and Freya). I think we were the only FFIX cosplayers that year, so we got a lot of love.
This costume is retired; I have no plans to revamp or remake it.
