Construction Details:

This was another intense pair of costumes. Both my partner Cimorene and I did two variations on the character for our skit, starting with Grell's butler form and ending with his classic red coat. I'll be separating the costumes for the site.

Classic Grell:

This was a deceptively simple costume when you look at it, but managing to tailor men's clothing to fit on a woman's figure but look like a womanly male took a few tries. We also had to customize the collars on both the button-up shirt and the jacket.

The vest and pants were made with nice wool suiting and for the coat we found a perfect flowing red. The satin trim was all custom-cut and attached to the edge of the coat. I hand-strung the beaded chain for the glasses and the wallet chain on my hip. I had actually made teeth as well but they wouldn't have stayed hidden for the first part of the skit so we left those behind. Wigs were cut and styled by me.

Personal Thoughts:

Grell is that one costume that everyone just wants to make. I finally did, for World Cosplay Summit USA Prelims in 2013 at Anime Matsuri. We took months of tango lessons to accomplish this skit, I'm very happy with how it came out.

All I have for now are a few pictures from the con, formal pictures will be available soon - we should be doing a photoshoot within the next month or two :)
