About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
So I'd been joking about making this costume for almost a month when Mood Fabrics (speaking for the Universe?) posted a near-perfect match for the kimono fabric at like, $3.00/yard. A quick run in a red dye bath and voila - an almost exact match. The kimono is lined in light cotton, and the hakama are a heavier kona cotton. I used Folkwear Patterns' hakama pattern for the base measurements, though I ended up deviating somewhat to make it look right. (For instance, most of the pleats are top-stitched to get them to hold.) The tasuki is just quilting cotton and bias tape. Hazard made the broom for my Kiki cosplay last year; it's always nice to get to use the same prop for two costumes!
- Personal Thoughts:
- I'll take "Swords" for 500, Alex. Thank you to Betsy for dragging me into Sword Hell.
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- Sewed a weft into the wig base for his ponytail. The wrapping is twill tape and is secured with rubber bands (inside) and hand stitching (outside).
