About this Costume

I went for a mix of various looks with my design. Mostly I wanted to stay grounded to the animation look, so I tried to be very deliberate and precise with my colors and textures (simple, clean, smooth, and cartoony). However, because I ALSO love the look of more detailed versions, such as her sparkle dress, park costume, her Couture de Force statue, and Musical Spectacular looks, however. So I decided to add some options for future accessorization.
rn
rnThe top is just spandex with stretch mesh for sleeves. Quite simple- this will be based on her animation version. Later on I intend to do different tops for different looks, with more detail!
rn
rnThe pants are quite simple- Casa satin and a spandex waistband, with elastic pant cuffs, so they just slide on. Very comfy! As an optional accessory, I can layer a sparkly organza skirt over it, which resembles her sparkle look (such as seen in Sofia the First).
rn
rnThe jewelry such as earrings and necklace were bought. Perhaps I'll make custom ones in the future. Shoes are also just cheap gold slippers. I want to learn to make my own shoes for this, but for budget's sake, and to save time, I'll get to that later!
rn
rnMy good friend Anya Braddock is helping me with the wig! I made the wig "rolls", and she helped wrap them as I would set it with hand applied hair spray. I really couldn't have done this without her, so I'm very thankful for her help!! - Personal Thoughts:
- I have wanted to cosplay Jasmine since 2010, all the way back in high school. Here I am five years later, FINALLY doing it. It's a pretty amazing year for me, getting to cosplay two of my favorite Disney princesses, Belle and Jasmine! Neither I planned for, but with the constant exposure to Disney while working at Disneyland, I couldn't NOT be inspired and motivated to finally do them!
rn
rnIn high school, my fear was always the pants. But a few years later I made some pretty decent red chiffon harem pants for Jasmine's red look. I was no longer afraid to tackle the garb, but then it was the strapless top that intimidated me. Until I finally became quite skilled with stretch fabric and made a strapless purple tube top for Ariel I was unsure of how to do Jasmine's top.
rn
rnUsing the same method for Ariel worked perfectly for Jasmine, so the last fear was the wig. That dreadful, gorgeous, perfect wig! I ended up making one wig for ColossalCon 2014 for my Slave Leia Jasmine outfit, but was unhappy with the result in the end. The bangs were not puffy enough like Jasmine's, and the hair was pulled too far off the face, so it looked more like a geisha than Jasmine.
rn
rnI decided later on that I would remake this piece before cosplaying Jasmine again, and kept my eye out for good deals on wigs and wefts from Arda. So I had been sitting with the materials for quite some time, but as I began to make the costume this year, had to bite the bullet and just make the wig again. My good friend Anya Braddock was a huge help with this part!
