About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
There are around 100 hand sewn roses on the entire costume, 14 of them in a larger size around the skirt. They were made from 16 yards of white casa satin with a sweetheart rose maker with the inverted instructionsrnrnThe "wig" is a chicken wire cage formed around a wighead and the wig I used for the costume and each rose was handsewn on with heavy duty thread. The feathers tips were wrapped in wire and woven into the cage. The bead strands were all pieced by me with crystal beads, eye pins and jump rings.rnrnThe petticoat was made with 16 yards of gathered netting and 54 yards of hem tape and fishing wire around the edges to make it buyontrnrnThe bodice was modified from a faux corset costume pattern to remove the back panels and make scallops around the top hem. There are four layers: Ivory satin for the outside, featherlight fusible interfacing, muslin where the boning channels were placed (made with a single fold bias tape) and ivory lining. I used custom cut spiral steel boning. Ivory ribbon is used as a lacingrnrnThe skirts were made from a gathered double circle skirt (bottom skirt with roses) made with kona cotton and the roses sewn on. The top skirt was made from the same ivory satin and lining as the bodice and was made with a 3/4 circle skirt, ten scallops were calculated in and traced onto a mock up.rnrnThe sleeves were modified from a medieval dress pattern and sewn onto a gathered puff sleeve. The collar was draped on a dressform. The loops are formed with a single cord and sewn into the edge.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I've been wanting to make Doll for a while ever since I finished the Noah's Ark Circus arc in the Kuroshitsuji manga. I cried for days. I decided to make her when I found out that Noah's Ark Circus was getting an anime adaption. It took me from the beginning of November to mid-May to get her done to my liking, but I still want to improve on her! Like strengthening the petticoat, adding a small hoop skirt and adding beading to the outfit. <br />

I think I'm really proud of this outfit. I made sure there were zero raw edges, everything was slip stitched or has a French seam or a rolled hem. And there was zero hot glue or safety pins!
