About this Costume
Construction Details:
Uggghhhh. There's a lot here. The portion I made BOTH times was that shell hammer piece. The most recent time I started with a "funneling out style" plastic trash bin. Drilled a hole in it for the pvc to go *just* go through so it can be removed for travel. Then, I built on it with plaster strips formed over folded up newspaper and the like for shape. The "spikes" are cardboard cones covered. The "fin" is detachable as well, and its base is polystyrene.
The arm bands are made of the same material as the rest of the darker colored fabric: plastic covered denim. Weird medium in general, but awesome for the costume. ALSO, I know many of you may scratch your heads because you've, I don't know, PLAYED the game and realize that Black Pearl's outfit is actually white. WELL, artistic licence. Black Pearl should be BLACK. PEARL. So there. I'm a nerd in a costume, who really cares? XD
The red and green "ruffles" on the shell skirt are rucheted taffeta. The bodice is boned and the beads are little girl's bead necklaces painted, twisted, and hand sewn on. The "cape" is made in the same manner as the "shell" except when I re-did it I put in a thick piece of cardboard for interfacing purposes.
Honestly, if there's anything else you really wanted to know about this outfit, just PM me :D
Personal Thoughts:
A costume we had made in 2006 for a skit and kind of left for dead after that because it gave us all such a headache. Fastforward to 2014 and Sailor Senmurv and I resurrected our costumes from the DEAD. Personal favorite of mine simply because I was able to fix it up and bring it up to my current standards. I'm not entirely satisfied with it, but it was a blast to wear it again! Also, SUCH a good game with a great soundtrack!
