About this Costume
Construction Details:
The top is made from poplin shirting fabric, with appliquéd patches at the wrists. The cuffs partially hang off a tab on the sleeves. I actually topstitched some larger stitches on certain areas of the top, as that was a detail added in the HD Remix version. rnThe skirt is silk with appliquéd circles (that were Heat n Bond'd first) and custom gold bias tape, then pleated. rnThe boot covers I'm not 100% happy with as I used a base pair of boots from my old fairy Paine costume. Eyelets hammered in and generic blue ribbon laced through. rnThe visor was a fun challenge! The antennae are worbla, cast onto a foamy mock-up, then gesso'd a bunch, then painted with white acrylic and some weathering. The green is cut from a poker-visor, then set into a new strap made from metallic spandex. It was all then velcro'd and glued onto the headband. rnThe gloves are metallic spandex and made with the freezer-paper method. I then hand-stitched pink rat-tail to the seams on the outside. The white dots are Puffy paint, applied the correct way (Never knew there was one!)
Personal Thoughts:
Considering this was a costume I tried to make back in 2003, with modifying my mom's dresshirt and trying to pleat a turquoise suede pencil skirt of hers, I'd say I'm rather damn proud of how this turned out! Psychic was such a cool design for YRP and I was so happy when it was put in the HD Remix so I could play with that dressphere! Not to mention used Scan Level 3 on it.
I was also happy to finally tackle that wig! When I cosplayed Rikku back in early 2000s, I used my own hair because I was still against using wigs (dohoho how adorable).

Styling Notes
The base of the wig is a Lulu, the braids were made with a pack of long-extensions, as were the strands hanging out at the top. The braids and spare strands were cut into their own wefts, then sewn and glued shut so no fibers could get lose. I made a "bouquet" out of the finished braids and spare strands and glued them inside the "hair-tie" which is actually cardboard inside a satin tube. I then sewed that tube down to the center of the wig. The ponytail is a Long Straight Clip that I just clip on the back of the wig. There are two hidden braids at the nape of the neck that I was really proud of since I really worked to get them to be the right thickness and length, but they're never visible in photos :(
Wig Review
PERFECT color for Rikku!
