About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The costume was self-patterned with a previous base bodice I made, then modified the neckline and reworked the seams. The sleeves were also patterned and done a few test runs before the actual sewing, since I wasn't too familiar with them. The puffs for the sleeves were individually hand-gathered, and then sewn into the sleev patterns. The pearls were then sewn in at the end during embellishment time.
The neckline details were all handsewn in, and the center cut-outs were made and then fray-checked. They were reinforced on the inside with a tiny bit of interfacing. The flowers were store-bought, and then handsewn in. The skirt was a little simpler, and made of a three panel Renaissance style to keep up with the overall design. The artbook doesn't show the bottom, so I ran some tests on what silhouette I liked.
This was my first time lining a costume, and while it took a few times, I had fun seeing the results. The inside of the sleeves and bodice are lined with purple satin.
Overall, it was a lengthy process making the costume, but really rewarding. - Personal Thoughts:
- Vampire Knight is one of my favorite series, and a while back I purchased the artbook since I love Hino's artwork. I had always loved Yuuki more as a vampire, and I loved her even more when I actually caught up on the manga!
I was new to creating more detail in gowns, and after Belldandy, I wanted to keep working with new patterns and shapes to design, so I selected to make Yuuki as a long term project for in the fall. I ended up working much more than I thought to on it, and I ended up on a whim deciding to enter masquerade with it for PMX about two weeks before. I have my isis wings, so I thought it'd be a fun time to show some of my practice, as well as my gown.
I love this costume very much and I had an absolute experience making it and wearing it. I intend to keep on wearing it (but not in the warm season!).
