Personal Thoughts:

I was really enamored of the costumes and specifically the embroidery and surface embellishment in Game of Thrones done by Michele Carragher. I love this color of blue and really wanted to try the dragon scale smocking used on this dress so I decided to do Daenerys’ costume from Season 3 or the Astaphor dress as some people call it. There are 3 versions of the dress in the show, each with more embellishment on it. Mine I suppose is a 2.5 version as it doesn’t quite have all the stitch work shown in the version 3 dress. I used McCall’s M6941 as the basis of the top of the dress. I extended the shoulders some and drafted the overlap of the bottom of the dress and the petal-skirt myself. I made both overlapping petals fit into a side zipper. I used a poly dupioni taffeta for my dress fabric. I did lots of small rectangles of dragon scale smocking and then applied them to my dress. To further embellish the dress I used dark embroidery floss mixed with DMC metallic gold and black thread done in a ladder stitch. I added Italian Mesh ribbon in dark gold and on the edges I added Miyuki tila beads and long drop beads in metallic Iris Patina. All of this was based on the description Michele Carragher made of what she used, though mine may not be fully accurate. My pants were made from one of my trusty Simplicity/Threads pants patterns (modified) with a light brown stretch denim for comfort. My ring, bracelet and necklace are from Jellyfishsoup on etsy! My wig is Arda’s lacefront Dany wig in Titanium Blonde (AR017). I caught up/styled the side/top of the wig in a Dutch braid.
