A shining example of why "accurate" isn't always best. That skirt is SHORT! x_x

Ah, Miaka. You either love her or you hate her. Since the two camps seem to be split along gender lines, it's easy to guess the reasons for loving or hating. ^_^
I made this costume before out of three different patterns and in three separate pieces. It looked terrible. Then I made it a second time, attaching the skirt to the vest to make an actual jumper. Since I didn't know how to make buttonholes, I put a zipper in the back. Not accurate, but it looked pretty good. Then, when I got a new sewing machine, I re-made it a third time. That version opens in the front with buttons and has a longer skirt for modesty. The photos below are of version two.
The fabric was some kind of gabardine that was a nice color and mercifully on sale. The patterns were a hodge-podge: A vest (Vogue # 9633), a pleated skirt (McCall's # 9490), and a jacket (Butterick # 6991). I made the jacket according to pattern directions. I was feeling spunky and even lined it partially. Then I worked on the vest according to directions, pinned the front closed and attached the skirt. Add on some buttons aaaaand...
Low and behold it worked! ^_^ The blouse, socks and Mary Janes I bought long, long ago, and I just glued a gold button on a purchased bow tie. The hair is all my own, believe it or not.
