About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
I used a Leia in Light Grey from Arda Wigs. I had to cut some of the length off, as well as cut the bangs, then raised the braids a bit higher (unfortunately, raising them to the exact height I needed tightened the cap too much that it wouldn't fit on my head, so I had to have them a bit lower). The glasses are reader glasses purchased from the dollar store. The sailor collar, cuffs, and skirt are made out of storm grey kona cotton, with interfacing and bias tape. The sailor collar is lined, and also has snaps to connect it to the shirt. I purchased a white long sleeve shirt and fabric dyed it with teal, dark green, and black RIT dye. The same process was done for the tights. I had to dye both the tights and shirt 3 times. The sleeve cuffs are directly sewn onto the shirt and connect together at the end with snaps. I made the ascot and arm band out of scrap red cotton (leftover from my Junko cosplay). The shinai bag was made out of the same fabric as my Sonia Nevermind cosplay, and I drafted my own pattern for it. For the dragon design, I pulled up a reference image of the dragon, added a grid over it in Photoshop, sized it to the proportions I needed for the bag, and printed it off. From there, I traced a grid pattern onto the bag, drew the dragon on with fabric pencil, then did the painting. The dragon design was the most difficult process of making this cosplay, but it's also my favorite part. I purchased a shinai from Ebay to carry around in the bag. The bag is tied at the top with light grey parachute cord. The shoes were purchased from someone off Ebay.
- Personal Thoughts:
- First time cutting and styling a wig, and first attempt at fabric dyeing. I wish I had more flattering pictures of this cosplay~ maybe next time. Also once again, knife pleats still seem to be my mortal enemy when it comes to sewing. Even with interfacing, the pleats don't stay put. Sigh.

- Wig Review
- This wig is really heavy and I had trouble keeping it from slipping backwards. Unfortunately I kinda cut the bangs a little too short, but I plan to remedy that by buying a matching bangs clip to also add more thickness to the bangs.
