About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Most of the patterning and process was determined by Sirene and Jillian, who were TOTAL troopers for figuring all of this out and making our snowflakes and stencils because there is no way I would've made those anywhere near as lovely. The snowflakes are all craft foam coated in glitter for additional idol sparkle!
Top to bottom, as usual: the headpiece attaches with a comb and is made from a gradient-dyed jersey, dotted with white pearlescent Lumiere paint, with the foam snowflake and gold bells sewn on. The fur bits (collar, trim of skirt, glove trim, and boot trim) are all a microfur from SyFabrics which shed absolutely EVERYWHERE but it's very soft!! The sleeve is the same jersey as the headpiece and is painted using stencils in white and a combination of white and blue pearlescent Lumiere paint. It attaches around my middle finger with a loop of gold ribbon.
The bodice and skirt are based off of the same Simplicity dress pattern, altered to have princess seams, though mine seriously needs to be fitted properly before the next time I wear it. They're made from a moleskin and lined with twill for structure. The snowflakes are hot-glued along the top of the bodice, and the bows are hand-sewn in place. The scallops are the same white jersey, dyed, and dotted with white paint. The skirt has snowflakes stenciled on with the blue and white mixture (I had a couple accidents...)
The glove was bought, and the fur hand-sewn on. The snowflakes were hot glued along the inside, as they were on the boot covers. These are ironically the most successful boot covers I have ever made. I am not good at them for starters, so I'm very proud. They were made from a powder blue velveteen with fur glued on and the ribbons and pom poms glued underneath it.
The garter and wristband were a wide galloon lace with blue ribbon sewn on top of it with elastic run through it. The bows were hand-sewn down, and the pompom and snowflake were glued on top. - Personal Thoughts:
- I really wish I'd given this costume the time it deserved--it does need some serious cleanup before the next time I wear it, but I had fun and I felt cute!! My main gripe is that I didn't fit the bodice very well and it showed. Either way, wearing this with my fellow l@dies was a total blast (or as much of a blast as a Sunday morning at a con after zero hours of sleep in the midst of hotel rush can be), and everyone looked so gorgeous *A*
