About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Fabrics: 4 Polished cotton (red), 4 yards quilters cotton (white), 10 yards of 1" horsehair braid, 10 yards of lace, 4 button pin combo make, 1 yard 3/8" satin ribbon, 3 yards short satin ribbon, 2 sizes of elastic, and 1 yard of crinoline.
The pattern was drafted by me and I saved it for future use (bless)
Dress: Blouse is 8 patterns total (not including sleeves), surged, and sewn together. Skirt is 2 circle skirts altered to have as little gathering around the waist. I believe 17" total minus seam allowance (and lace) so ending at 15.5". I did not add boning, so the front panel I added the hoops for the "corset" section to lace up. I used some scrap fabric to make a small white indication to the sides to match the figure. Chest is lined and elastic was used to gather the ruffles at the top. Black bow was left over from my stockings. Sleeves are stuffed with crinoline, added elastic, and lined so there was no rubbing against the skin. top section is entirely lined and a 22" invisible zipper is in the back. For the hem I basically surged the edges, attached the horsehair, and hidden stitched the entire horsehair to the skirt so there wasn't a visible line. I had to hand sew all the lace on as well afterwards. Hand sewing took up most of my time and I wont be doing this again.
Apron/cap: Made with some cheap quilters cotton. Lined. The waistband on the apron is lined with a very thick interfacing to help keep it's shape and frame the body a little better. Ruffles on the edging is all gathered and stitched. Cap is made with left over material of both the cotton and the lace. I originally got an order of headbands but they turned out too small, so I had to get whatever Joann's had at their store. Bows were all hand sewn together and attached to the apron.
Cuffs: Polished cotton and lined with cotton. I used the 3/8" satin ribbon, cut where the V shape needed to lay, burned the edges together with a flame and top stitched onto the polished cotton. The covered button/pins are made from left overs and combined. I ended up getting pin tacks from Michael's, shoving them in the gap where the button loop would have been, and pressing it all down on the covered button.
Choker was made by Devon
Shoes bought from Target (online)
Stockings were bought from some online store.
Overall a costume that shouldn't have taken this long, but since I wasn't sure how to finish parts of it, it took longer than I had liked. Next round shouldn't be as complicated and go rather quickly in comparison.
If my instructions do not make sense please message me as im exhausted and just happy to have this thing done and over with. - Personal Thoughts:
- I'm lucky I got bargain fabric for $1 a yard for the majority of this costume because good heavens it takes a lot of material. Extra blessed Jinglebooboo and Devon joined in on my little solo project to make this a cute and adorable group ; 3;
