About this Costume
Construction Details:
*Shirt & Varsity Jacket*
So I bought a track jacket that i altered completely. I just wanted to have a base to work with because I've never made anything like it before. So i cut off the sleeves and sewed my own sleeves to the jacket after I aded the grey and black stripes that accent the arms. i used a white terrycloth fabric that had a similar weight tot he varsity jacket. I drew the graphic on illustrator and i printed them out and then proceeded to cut them out and trace them on some white felt. Some varsity jackets have felt embellishments so I thought it would be appropriate to use it for the graphic components. I still don't know if it was the right decision but I can always try again. =) I'm wearing standard white button down blouse. The red neck tie is actually a piece of red spandex I had left over that I sewed and tied in a bow.

*Skirt*
Pleated skirts are simple enough my mom help me get it perfect because she's better at making pleated clothing. It's basically Navy Cotton twill with 2 inch pleats all around.

*Sneakers*
White Sneaker Wedges. I plan to alter them but I couldn't get white vinyl in time to get any of it done I plane to do so for the next time this cosplay.

*Wig*
I bought the wig from ebay. Unfortunately the hair gel I bought to style the wig failed me miserably. It didn't do anything and I was unable to style my wig the way I would've wanted to. I'm on the lookout for better styling products so I can be prepared.

*Scissor Blade*
This is my second prop ever!! I was working simultaneously on two props when I made this. It isn't perfect, but I learned so much along the way!! =)

Materials:
Pink Insulation Foam
Box Cutter
Gesso
Bruhses
All Grades of Sanding Blocks
Red Spray Paint

I drew the scissor blade to my liking and I tried to figure out the proportions best suited for me and my height. i never like making anything too crazy large or too small. I want to be practical to a certain degree for travel purposes. once I was happy with my sketch I transferred it over to the insulation foam and proceeded to cut it all out with a box cutter. Once I cut all the major parts and I had my basic scissor blade cut out. I began to whittle away for several days. They're os many curves and details that I had to take my time with it. I've never done something like this before. Once I was happy with the way it looked, I painted several layers of gesso over the whole thing. I sanded afterward and spray painted it red. I wanted to make it metallic red, but unfortunately the metallic red I bought was way too sheer to make a difference. nonetheless I'm very happy with what I accomplished.
Personal Thoughts:
Matoi is such a ridiculously bad ass character that I fell in love with everything about her from the very first episode! Most of the costumes in this show are very..revealing, and I don't think I'm fit enough to pull those outfits off. But I love Matoi so much that I really wanted to cosplay her character and wave around that scissor blade. XP So I opted for doing her first very outfit! I loved that varsity jacket with the graphics and edginess to it I thought it would be a lot of fun to make.
