*** This needs to be updated lol no one rly cares tho?? I have some more or different details on my tumblr liehf.tumblr.com/tagged/faq :P Message me if you have an specific questions, please don't make my same mistakes
Madokami WIP album : http://s1080.photobucket.com/user/sassydoodler/library/MADOKAMI%20wip (everything I did before metrocon, not including pics of things I fixed after)
I used some generic but still fancy / shiny fabric. I REALLY wish I would've used something more holograph though. If you're considering making a Godoka cosplay, I'd recommend investing in that tbh.
I used a LOT of fabric though. (It was also all like, crazy expensive. I spent around $150-200 on this in all. If I had to guess I would estimate 30 yards of fabric? I don't quite remember. Plus tulle. so just a LOT.) NOW I know that I would've saved some money (and pain, as the fabric is so bunched up it makes it hard to sew through) to go with the circle skirt technique. Especially the top, because that's the only full skirt. (it's also still too long in the front, which I need to fix) But even the bottom two, I could've sewn together large triangles of fabric so it's flowy at the bottom but small at the top. rip now u kno
To keep it poofy, the bottom skirt is attached to a belt that has 6 pieces of plastic going off of it, with tulle all around it. I also wear 2 petticoats!
All 3 skirt layers are just gathered material. The 3rd is gathered around a belt. The middle is on elastic. And the top is attached directly to my shirt.
The bottom skirt also was airbrushed some to look more space like. I also added various colors of glitter all over. Also rhinestones. ALSO like 4 strings of 10 blue LEDs! ~space~
The shirt and jacket are very basic. My own patterns. Shirt has a zipper on the side and the jacket has a snap under the gem in front.
After Metrocon, I went back and sewed a pattern of sequins along all the edges that were scalloped, to help them stand out and stay nice. (Took a long time, but worth it!)
I also added LOTS of little rhinestones, like to the shoes, hair bows, necklace, feet wings, etc.
Made the soul gems from resin, glued directly to the jacket. The main gem is hollow should I could put a light in it, and it not attached all the way (so I can turn the light on/off)
The "socks" are actually fake thigh highs airbrushed onto skin colored tights. Sooo plain tho they need glitter ouo
Wings were made from strong wire and cellophane (same with the feet wings, though a smaller wire.) though you could just use any type of clear wrapping paper, because It's just attached with tacky-spray. I had this flexible but sturdy tubing over the wire on the top of the wings to add support, and that is inside some actual PVC! The other end of the PVC goes other wooden dowels, which is attached to more wood which is held to my back via elastic! Look at the photos it'll make sense. They're 7ft across (please do not do this to yourself) and very glittery!!!!!!!!!
And the bow I've remade once and will remake again. First time It was a piece of wood cut up and glued back together (then paper mached + the regular routine) but it was too big and weird looking. Then it was expanding insulation foam on a wire (then the same routine again) but it was too fragile and started breaking in the middle. So third time will be the charm, hopefully?
yeah thats it - Personal Thoughts:
- This is literally the biggest and hardest cosplay I've ever done and I hope I will ever do. It has a lot of things I need to fix, and i surely will over time, but I am honestly so so SO proud of everything in this!
Madoka Magica is one of my favorite anime and Madoka is one of my FAVORITE characters EVER and I had only dreamed about making this cosplay. Very rarely do I ever stick to any sort of advanced plans for cosplays, much less spent 6 months carefully planning the same one.
She's kinda like that one dream you have that you know is so impractical it would never happen but, wow, it sure would be nice. But I did it anyways!!! And I'd like to think I defiantly have the best wings ever thank you very much (everything about this cosplay is so IMPRACTICAL though ugh)
I love it, I'm absolutely wearing Madokami to every convention I ever go to ever.
