About this Costume

I couldn't resist spicing the original design a little bit more (with permission of the original artist, of course!). Her plain red flats were substituted with a pair of red lace-covered ones, and I modified them to add the strap, which was made with bias tape, lace and a button. I bought a pair of argyle-printed knit tights instead of plain grey ones. The dress was quite straightforward (but it was what took me the most because I'm still terribly slow at sewing ;_;), and I added two layers to the skirt with a lettuce hem finish to make it look poofier and prettier. The jacket was an old sweater: I removed the zipper, dyed it a darker shade of red and sew the black buttons.rnrnAccesories were all made by myself: the two scrunchies, the little neck bow, the "K" hairpin (made with foam and soft paperclay) and the glasses which were bought and modified, cutting the top side of the frames and then reattaching the lenses with clear contact glue.
- Personal Thoughts:
- This was a costume that I wanted to make since I first laid eyes on Aiwa's (http://ai-wa.deviantart.com/) design for the mascot of the website I collaborate in as a cosplay editor. Since I'm the resident cosplayer, the rest of the staff hinted more than once or twice that I should cosplay her... it didn't took much to get me hooked on the idea XDrnrnAs it usually happens, it took me a second time to finish and perfect this cosplay (I first intended to finish it for a convention), and I had the chance to ask my incredibly talented friend Alexis for a photoshoot. He really made me feel like a model and I'll be forever grateful for that! rnrnThanks to Aiwa for sharing the full body design of koinya-tan with me, to Alexis for his talent behind the camera, to AsukA for making a great banner for my section with this photo and, of course, to everyone at koi-nya.net!
Wig Details
- Wig Brand
- cookdream
- Wig Name
- Long Wave Gradient
- Original Color:
- Linen & Rose Red
- Styling Time
- 5 days
- Wig Quality Rating
- 4 / 5.00
- How was the wig colored?
- Applying 70º alcohol+red ink & undiluted red ink with a brush
- Styling Notes
- Base wig was cut, styled and the gradient was made by directly applying red ink with a brush for the most intense tones and diluted with 70º alcohol for the medium parts. Pigtails were made with the resulting fiber transforming them into wefts with clear-drying silicone caulk and tulle to sew them more easily.
- Wig Review
- This wig was so incredibly beautiful and the pre-existing gradient was so pretty that I thought of all kind of tricks to avoid cutting it before resorting to do it and make the fake pigtails T_T
