Construction Details:

Back to the normal foam board construction!
I made basic templates with paper and then cut out 3 layers of the blade out of foam board (for one dagger, so in all i cut out 6). I hollowed out one of them and glued a chopstick into it for weight and support. I also put a tiny screw at the end of the dagger too (for more weight. You'll see why later). I glued two of hte pieces together and then at the top I glued.... a retractable lanyard! Toru's daggers have a wire at the end of them and I thought that was super cool, so I tried to incorporate it into my prop. I also did all that beveling business.
I cut out the guard from insulation foam and carved a hole out so I could slide it onto the base. I then covered everything (except the lanyard) with spackle! That stuff is my best friend man. After that all dried I sanded and spray painted it. After that all dried I covered the lanyard piece with craft foam and for the piece that holds that tassle thing I used a bead and some string and glued that onto the lanyard piece too. I proceeded to detail with craft foam and cord. After that was done I painted everything else that wasn't silver with acrylic paints!

It's a simple prop but I LOVE the fact that it extends at the pommel. At first I thought I made it too heavy because when i pulled it out, it stayed out (which is cool to pose with I guess) but then one day i was messing around and tossed the blade part into the air and it came back to me!! OMG IT WAS SO COOL! I'M GETTING SUPER EXCITED NOW EEK! Cannot wait to see someone do toru justice with these : 3

Okay now that I'm in the Chaika mindset, where is my Toru boyfriend?? Haha just kidding that's weird.
