About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Top of the dress was patterned from a nightgown pattern (hah). There are two layers: (1) Decorative eyelet lace layer on top, and (2)ivory bengaline underlining. The lotus pattern is embroidered to the front panel with metallic gold thread (this stuff is terrible to embroider with) and some beading. It's held up with some clear straps. There's an invisible side seam.
The lining of the skirt is a full circle of mystery remnant fabric. The outer two layers of skirts are made of one half circle skirt and one full circle skirt. The circle skirts are made of chiffon and finished with french seams and attempted baby hem (attempted being the operative word). It was my first attempt at actually sewing large amounts of chiffon, lots of internet research was involved.
Apparently the most wonderful thing about this costume is the crown, which had to be CLEAR. I wish they made clear Wonderflex, but they don't. Or if they did, I didn't know how to find it. So the crown's made of overhead transparencies--you know, the kind that was used in school...(do they still use overheads in schools now?) - Personal Thoughts:
- Why did I think a long drape-y dress was a good idea?
Wig Details
- How was the wig colored?
- Wefting
- Styling Notes
- I ordered two two-tone wigs, both brown and pink. The color seemed a bit not pink enough, so I removed the pink wefts from one wig and sewed them into the other, resulting in a slightly pinker more poufy wig for Aurora.
