About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
I had dyed all of the flowy bits to this costume. They all started out as white polyester silkies and I used a combination of red polyester dye and yellow RIT dye to create the orange colors. I gradient dyed them and it took me a couple days to get each gradient the way I wanted. So everything that is orange on this costume actually started out white.
I used a orange variegated thread for the embroidery along the pants and the skirt. I chose a fabric with a subtle pattern on it to differentiate it from the the rest of the costume.
The horn is model magic and it is mounted on four gold jewelry coin pieces that I modded together and connected with a piece of white craft foam. I used contact cement to connect everything together as well as sewing the jewelry pieces right to the head wrapping.
I hand beaded all the strands around my head and shoulders as well as around my sleeves. I incorporated several different types of beads that I felt had a very "goldeen" feel to them. Solid oranges, whites, orange speckled beads as well as tiny seashells to tie in the whole water pokemon feel. - Personal Thoughts:
- I had a really hard time narrowing down which of the designs I wanted to do. But when I saw the Goldeen design I was really excited about different things I could try and so I settled on that one.
I am so proud of how this costume turned out which is saying a lot because I have felt like I was in a bit of a slump lately. I haven't been too happy with anything and I was really worried about undertaking this project. But everything came together about how I wanted and it took a little over a month to complete.
