About this Costume
Construction Details:
This year I didn't really have a lot of money for costumes so I improvised using only things I had available. My goal was to spend as little as possible and I succeeded in only buying the wig and fabric for the bottom of the tail. In the end I created my own interpretation of the character but tried to stay as true to the design as possible, while still giving it my own twist.rnrnTheir are about 200 scales and each one was hand cut out of vinyl and painted and sewn onto skirt. The plastic bra shells were something I had for a long time and never thought I would use so they really came in handy. I painted them, added lace which I hand painted gold and then attached all to a bra. I then rub n buffed some beads that I already had and used them in place of "coins" which were in the original design.rnFor the headpiece I made everything from scratch. The base is made from shaped wire and craft foam, covered in hand painted shells, beads, 2 large plastic shells which I cut, layered and painted. The pointy tips of the headpiece are all handmade shells using polymer clay. rnFor the neckpiece I used an old shirt which had the perfect textures/holes in it. I cut out and painted and added all the jewels and lace. The arm piece and the neckpiece are also made of vinyl that I hand painted and added jewels to. rnrnThe staff is all wood, with some craft foam. My boyfriend cut it for me and I painted and designed it.rnrn
