About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Dress - The material I used was a poly-satin
I modified a bodice pattern I had for the top of the dress, and added 3 circle skirts for the bottom half. The top is fully lined, with plastic boning. Each circle skirt was created from two full circles of fabric sewn together. I box-pleated the skirts and added horsehair braid to the hem to accentuate the ruffles.
Shoes- Base shoe was bought on Amazon, I added a lace trim and the bows.
Scissor blade - Scissor blade was constructed from insulation foam. Me and my boyfriend carved the shape, sanded, then reinforced with a thick gesso coating. After that, I used a metallic purple spray paint, and a gloss finish.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I started this costume in February 2014, and progress went pretty slow until the final 2 weeks. I went for a more realistic take on Nui, leaving out the giant cartoon drill curls, and substituting it for something more soft and Loli-looking. She was the Grand Couturier after all... so I also took a softer, more elegant approach to the dress. Overall this costume took me a really rough approximation of around 80 hours. For various reasons. lol
