About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
A friend recommended a book for how to make traditional Japanese clothing, so I relied heavily on that as I made this. The hippari I made out of cotton sateen. The fans are dyed and then I added a gradient to them by stretching the wet fabric in an embroidery hoop and brushing in some watered down fabric paint. All those are satin stitched on. rnrnHer overcoat was a rush job and I plan on redoing it before I wear it again. I was not happy with the kind of paints I used for the bottom hem design, and overall there were a lot of corners I cut to get it done in time. I've since remade the overcoat and the bottom design is appliqued on. Her musket is also a work in progress. I had help from both my dad with cutting out the initial shape, and my boyfriend's dad for attaching some of the pieces.
- Personal Thoughts:
- So far I have a love/hate relationship with this costume.
