Construction Details:

The hat is made of a wire mesh frame and covered in silk dupioni. The beads are all either wired and couched onto the hat, or sewn by hand. There is a fair amount of real Hill Tribe silver on the hat, and throughout the costume. The spire is made of bits from a floral section. I wanted her to look as organic and realistic as possible, so I tried to make the flowers look realistic.

The jewelry (necklaces, armbands, bracelets, anklets, and belt) was all handmade.

The sarong is made of a silk-blend fabric, which was chosen for the geometric designs that resemble those in Southeast Asia.

The peasant's costume is based on traditional Khmer commoner clothing. The fabric is all cotton, and the pants are made by a folding technique.

Personal Thoughts:

This was the costume o'beads. Apsara is a divine being in Hindu and Buddhist mythology. I based this costume on 12th century Khmer stone carvings.
