The dress wasn't difficult to make but I wanted to be picky on the fabrics since I was making it for a snow shoot. I really didn't want to freeze my ass off while shooting (though I technically did, but that's a story for another time!) so the black fabric is a nice wool and the red is doe skin suede. Both are pretty thick and actually kept me decently warm while shooting!
I patterned the dress myself and hand ruffled all the red ruffles. There are two petticoats underneath that I sewed together. The waist cincher I also patterned myself and made it out of vinyl. I was a little (overly) detail oriented when it came to the lacing on the cincher and the boots and actually counted how many times grommets were there and laced them up exactly like the reference... because I'm crazy. The belt is vinyl over craft foam.
Crescent Rose isn't accurate at all. lol I knew I didn't have time to make a decent one, not did I have a proper place to store it once I completed it. Not to mention, I had to fit the thing in a car and drive it up to Tahoe. So I made a shitty version out of a large wooden plank, isolation foam and poster board.
I cut the foam with a heat knife so it was mostly smooth around the edges. I didn't bother coating it with anything due to time constraints and the fact that I just really didn't care. haha All the pieces were spray painted and hauled up to Tahoe where I put the whole thing together on the side of the road using industrial strength Velcro minutes before the shoot. SO PRO!
Like I said, I know it's not 100% accurate and there are a lot of details missing, but I wanted something good enough for the shoot and I was pretty satisfied with the outcome. - Personal Thoughts:
- Someone showed me the trailer for RWBY a while back and I really liked Ruby's aesthetic. When she show premiered, I really enjoyed her as a character as well; so I knew she was to be put on the cosplay list.
