About this Costume
Construction Details:
WELL. It's a whole buncha pleather from Joanns, because let's face it, coupons are wonderful. :D All of the pieces are handmade, no bought materials. The armor pieces were drafted patterns (just drew them out, placed on me and modified to my liking). And here's a minor breakdown of each part:

Scale vest - was a drafted vest pattern and each scale is individually cut and sewn onto the vest.
Armor pieces - based with craft foam, then wrapped/glued with the pleather and topstitched.
Belts - are handmade, from the pleather and sewn
Green jumpsuit - dyed, sewn and finished

Lastly the legs:
Right leg (boot) - is a 4.5 inch platform boot, nailed into another handmade platform (it's composed of 6 pieces of foam sandwiched in between two pieces of wood) Over that is a handmade bootcover, sewn and finished with the belts attached.

Left peg leg - this is entirely handmade, it started as 4 large pieces of wood, squared off with four smaller pieces connected them. All are angled at the edges to create a octagon shape. It was glued into place and then sanded down to create the barrel effect. This was then stained and painted to the color it is now, with added silver stripes and "bolts". The bottom is another piece of wood, with the metal structure for the tip (and attached to the rest of the barrel). The metal pieces were found objects and welded together. There is also another piece behind the main metal piece to added support (and for me to be able to walk). Lastly, the inside of the barrel: the back of the barrel actually is cut out so that my heal can sit on that ledge, with a built in "ramp" for arch support. For the whole thing to work, the left leg is somewhat always on "tippy toes" (while the right leg is flat and leveled out with the left). In the end, I ended up being 6'2'', which was a weird change of pace seeing as I'm 5'4'' irl.
Personal Thoughts:
Absolutely loved the outfit when I first saw the couple of first movie/promotional posters a year or so back. Also just absolutely love Hiccup to death and had to create his awesome new outfit in time for the movie!
