Construction Details:

the bodice is a functional corset which laces up the back. it has 2 layers: the interfaced facing and then the cotton lining which has a ton of boning sewn to it. i used plastic boning rather than steel. the bodice took a million hours ahahah but it’s the only part i’m happy with. the base bodice took a couple days, but the details were done in one caffeine-fuelled all-night. i took a bunch of heavy canvas and i glued a piece of this really pretty light blue lining fabric to it with spray adhesive, and cut it up into squares. i then modge podged all of the squares onto the bodice so it had that scale-like texture you see on elsa’s bodice. i covered some of the gaps and cracks with more squares of a thin organza, which creates the effect of different-colored fabrics, and this made the bodice much more sturdy and kept the squares from falling off. then i added another layer of matte modge podge on top of the whole thing. you absolutely MUST use a dress form when you’re doing the modge podge part. if you don’t have a real one (i don’t) a duck tape form will work just fine. in the end, my bodice is literally hard as rock, but it still has enough flexibility that it works as a corset when laced up!! i added glitter to the top of it to create that frosted over look, and i plan to add rhinestones before i wear it again. this is actually the only part of the costume i’m really happy with.

i couldn’t find an accurate fabric for the skirt on short notice, so i ended up taking a blue satin and adding two layers of this really pretty sparkly tulle on top, then sewing all the pieces together. if i had more time, i would try to find a fabric that has silver threads running through it and dip-dye the bottom a darker color like elsa’s actual skirt.

the cape is a light blue chiffon, i purchased about 4 yards and that was enough for the cape and the sleeves. it’s several layers of fabric. i tried to put snowflakes on with spray adhesive and glitter and i hecked up so bad and ended up gluing glitter to the hotel bathroom floor and then paid my friend $5 to scrape it off with a fake nail aaaaaaah and then i glued my fingers together and basically do NOT use spray adhesive if you want to put snowflakes on, i ended up just leaving off the snowflakes. i didn’t hem it, i sealed the edges with glitter puffy paint.

the sleeves are made out of the same chiffon and this is the part of the costume i’m most disappointed in. i couldn’t get them to fit right because it wasn’t a stretch fabric, and i ended up making armwarmer things instead of the shirt thing because at this point it was 3 pm on the day i was supposed to be wearing this outfit and i’d been working since 9 am. i’m remaking the shirt out of a stretch fabric before i wear it again.

you can’t really see the shoes in these photos but they were clear plastic heels from goodwill that i cut into that spiky ice shape, edged the spiky part with silver glitter puffy paint, and added rhinestones

the wig was styled by jabberwocky, and if you have any questions you should ask her! my actual wig didn’t come in time so we ended up using a different one and cutting up my roxy wig for wefts but she did a really lovely job!

basically this costume was far too complex to attempt in a week and i’m only really happy with the wig/bodice, i’ll be remaking parts of it before i wear it again!!! don’t be me, kids

Personal Thoughts:

i made this in one week before ALA haha wow i wish i’d had more time. it was a very last minute cosplay decision and i could have made things a lot better if i’d had more advance notice. i'm remaking a lot of it now (i'm making a more accurate shirt, adding rhinestones to the bodice, and completely redoing the cloak) and hopefully it'll look better!
